I've finished finals. Yay! I wrote almost 10,000 words for Nano. Life is good.

LawmanWind rattled the plastic bags lining the many alleyways of the twilight city. It rattled the old, overfilled grocery carts interspersed between and under the bags. Down one alleyway in a deserted, falling-to-naught end of the city, the wind stirred a multi-hued fire into slow ballet of flickering and falling heat. A dark haired old woman also stirred the fire, nudging it back to life with a long, fire-hardened cane as it faltered. worked all day 'til the sun was gone,
and he dreamed in peace the whole night long,
but Brittle Bindle Pumpkin Song still thought to himself that life was all wrong.

The witch's boyHe sits alone on this bench or that,The witch's boy
his flat, bare feet ready at a moment's notice
to pick up his skeletons-
books, pictures, clothes, and food-
and go: move along, there!,
ambling through a forest of wooden faces turned the other way,
his own sun-crinkled lips turned to a smile at the memory of enchantment brushing them ... or was that a once-upon-a-time woman?

Peace at lastIn the morning she stirred.Peace at last
She stirred the lumpy oatmeal,
its surface pocked with burst bubble dimples.
She stirred the coffee clockwise for luck.
And she stirred the groggy air with her bright scent.
These days I eat bagels,
smooth and perfect
because the cream cheese has covered them over.
I drink juice blended elsewhere to be sweet as her touch,
and treasure each stir in this silent, still kitchen.
